A day at Mosaic
What actually happens between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM
Nursery days are usually described in three lines on a website and then turn out to be something else entirely. Here is the real shape of ours — what a child does, what they eat, when they rest, and what reaches your phone while it is happening.

The shape of the day
Steady enough to predict, loose enough to breathe
Children this age tell the time by events, not clocks. When the day has a reliable order — arrival, play, lunch, rest, play, home — a child can relax into it within a fortnight, and a great deal of anxious behaviour simply disappears.
The times below are the frame, not a schedule to be enforced. Nobody is woken from a nap. Nobody has a painting taken away because it is time to line up. If a group is deep in something at 10:45, the Playroom waits ten minutes.
Timings shown are for Early Learners; Toddlers eat and sleep earlier, and Preschool and Pre-KG have a longer focused-work block. The programmes page sets out the rhythm of each room. Your child's key person will give you their room's exact rhythm at the settling visit.
- 8:00 – 8:45 AM
Soft arrivals
A familiar adult meets every child at the door and takes the handover from you: how they slept, whether they ate, anything we should know. Shoes into the cubby, hands washed, then a quiet table activity — dough, puzzles, drawing — while the room fills.
- 8:45 – 9:15 AM
Morning circle
Ten to fifteen minutes on the rug: greeting song, who is here today, the weather, and a look at what is set out. Children share news; the adult introduces one new material or question connected to the current investigation.
- 9:15 – 10:45 AM
Long play & focused work
The most important ninety minutes of the day. Children choose freely across construction, home corner, small world, books, drawing and the investigation table. Adults are on the floor, extending play and taking observations. Within this block each key person also runs one short small-group session — a story, a number game or a hands-on task — with four or five children at a time.
- 10:45 – 11:30 AM
Indoor movement & gross-motor
Children use the Playroom and huge indoor gym for active play, movement and gross-motor work.
- 11:45 AM – 12:20 PM
Lunch together
Children eat food brought from home together at low tables. Adults sit with them; lunch is a language-rich half hour, not a refuelling stop.
- 1:00 – 2:30 PM
Rest & quiet choices
Blinds down, lamps on, quiet music. Children who nap sleep on their own labelled mat or cot in the sleep room, checked and recorded every ten minutes. Children who no longer nap move to the library nook for books, puzzles and calm one-to-one work with an adult.
- 2:30 – 3:15 PM
Food break & specialist session
Children eat food brought from home, then join the day's specialist session: Arabic, music and movement, French or yoga, depending on the room and the day of the week.
- 3:15 – 4:30 PM
Second play period & clubs
Indoor provision reopens. Children enrolled in an after-school club join their group; everyone else continues in the rooms with the afternoon team.
- 4:30 – 6:00 PM
Reflection circle & staggered collection
A short circle to look back at the day and at anything the children made, then calm play as families arrive. Every collection includes a two-minute verbal handover: what they ate, how they slept, one specific thing they did.

Rest & sleep
Nap on your child's schedule, not ours
Sleep is one of the two things parents ask about most on a tour, and the honest answer is that we follow the child. Toddlers sleep when they are tired, on their own labelled mat in a darkened, temperature-controlled sleep room, with a practitioner present at all times and a physical check recorded every ten minutes.
For Early Learners there is a scheduled rest period after lunch. Children who no longer sleep are not required to lie still for ninety minutes; after twenty minutes of quiet they move to the library nook. We will never wake a sleeping child to keep to a routine, and we will never keep a child awake because a nap might affect bedtime — though we will happily talk it through with you if home sleep is being disrupted.

Staying in touch
What reaches your phone, and when
Every family has an account on our parent app. It is where the day is recorded as it happens, not typed up at 5:55 PM.
- Photographs from the day in class
- A short note from the teacher on how the day went
- Newsletters, closures and reminders
Photographs are only ever taken on nursery-owned devices, stored on our managed account, and shared with the parents of the children pictured. Nothing is posted publicly without a separate written consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
If something matters — a fall, an unusual mood, a first word — you get a phone call, not a notification. And if you want to check in mid-morning, call reception; we would far rather answer than have you worry until pick-up.
